Getting to Rushaga

Via Kigali, Rwanda
This is the most efficient route. You fly into Kigali International Airport, then drive four to five hours to the Uganda border at Cyanika. The Rwandan roads are excellent, and the scenery is beautiful. Crossing at Cyanika is usually smooth — bring your East African Tourist Visa. From the border, it is about one hour of rougher road to the Rushaga lodges. This route saves you a full day of travel compared to starting from Entebbe.
Via Entebbe, Uganda
If you fly into Entebbe, prepare for a long overland journey. The drive to Rushaga takes nine to ten hours. You pass through Mbarara and Kabale as the landscape shifts from flat savannah to lush, terraced hills. It is a beautiful drive, but exhausting. We usually recommend breaking the journey with a stop at Lake Mburo National Park.
Domestic Flight to Kisoro
You can fly from Entebbe to the Kisoro airstrip in about one hour. Flights leave in the morning, so you need to arrive in Entebbe the evening before. From Kisoro, it is a 45-minute drive to the park. This option costs more but saves your legs for the trek.

Best Time to Visit Rushaga
June to August and December to February are the dry months. Trails are firmer, and the forest is easier to navigate. These months fill up fast — book your permits and accommodation several months in advance.
March to May and September to November bring the rains. Trails turn slippery and muddy, but the park grows quiet. Lodge rates drop. You may have the gorillas almost entirely to yourself. If you do not mind getting muddy, the wet season is a smart and rewarding time to travel.
