Who Can Check Rwanda Gorilla Permits Online?- The cost of Gorilla Permits. As of now, the cost of a gorilla trekking permit in Rwanda is $1,500 for foreign non-residents. It also costs $1000 for foreign residents and citizens from other African countries. Additionally, it costs $200 for East African citizens. Rwanda also offers a discount for tourists who spend at least two nights in Akagera National Park or Nyungwe Forest National Park, reducing the permit price to $1,050 per person.
The cost of the permit includes several expenses, such as Park entrance fees and Security for both trekkers and Mountain gorillas. It also includes Community and conservation support and ranger guide fees. Additionally, it includes Medical care for the Mountain gorillas and one hour with the gorillas.
However, the permit fee does not cover Personal shopping, Transport, Accommodation, Tips, or hiring porters.

How to Book
You should book Gorilla trekking permits in Rwanda at least six months in advance, as only 96 permits are issued daily. Demand is particularly high during the dry/peak season. Therefore, early booking increases your chances of securing a permit and better accommodation options.

To book a gorilla permit, you need to provide:
Preferred trekking dates – Suggest multiple dates in case your first choice is unavailable.
Scanned copy of your passport – This is required for processing the permit and ensuring you meet the minimum age requirement (12 years).
Payment details – Payments can be made via direct bank transfer or credit card. If using a bank transfer, ensure the bank covers withdrawal charges so the full permit fee is received. Note that not all tour operators accept credit cards, and those that do may charge a 3%–9% surcharge.
Once the availability is confirmed, the tour operator will pre-book the permit, but payment must be made immediately due to high demand. After payment is processed, a scanned copy of the permit will be sent to you, and upon arrival, you will receive the original permit from your guide.

The trek can take anywhere from one to six hours, depending on where the gorillas are. Trackers head out each morning to find the gorillas and radio their location to the guides. Rangers carry machetes to clear paths through thick vegetation, and an armed ranger escorts every group for safety.
