Kidepo Valley National Park
Kidepo Valley National Park is one of Uganda’s most magnificent national parks, located in the remote Karamoja region in Kaabong district, between Uganda and the South Sudan border. The Park is the country’s third-largest national park, and authorities gazetted it in 1958 due to its breathtaking landscape and abundant wildlife species. It covers a total area of 1442 square kilometers and comprises savannah vegetation, hills, and valleys like Kidepo and Narus Valley, and Mount Morungole, among others. The park houses about 77 mammal species and 475 bird species, such as the ostrich, Karamoja apalis, the Abyssinian roller, purple heron, Abyssinian ground hornbill, and Clapperton’s Francolin.
