Your journey begins with a pick-up in Kigali by a representative from Anthill Safaris. Whether arriving at Kigali International Airport or staying at a hotel, your driver will welcome you warmly. After a brief introduction, you will set off on a scenic drive to Gisenyi, a charming town on the shores of Lake Kivu. During this journey, enjoy the rolling hills and lush landscapes of Rwanda.
On arrival in Gisenyi, you will check in at your lodge and settle in for the evening. Take some time to relax, enjoy the serene atmosphere, and prepare for the exciting adventure awaiting you the next day.

Start your day early with breakfast and transfer to the Grande Barriere border post by 7:00 am. Here, you will complete check-in procedures at the Virunga tourism office by 8:00 am. During the process, you will receive your Nyiragongo trek permit and further instructions.
After check-in, you will head to Kibata Ranger Post, the starting point for the hike. The trek begins at around 10:00 am, leading you through various landscapes, including lush forests, rocky lava fields, and open spaces. The hike takes approximately 6 hours, though this depends on your fitness and pace.
Reaching the summit offers spectacular views of the lava lake. The sight of the boiling red lava beneath the crust is awe-inspiring, especially at night. You will have plenty of time to admire the views and capture memories with photographs. Spend the night at the summit as you enjoy the unique environment.
Accommodation: Kibumba Tented Camp
Your final day begins with an early descent from the volcano. The journey down provides opportunities to take in the morning light and final views of the surroundings. After reaching the base, you will return to the Grande Barriere border post.
Your driver will meet you here and transfer you back to Kigali. Along the way, enjoy the scenic landscapes and reflect on your adventure. You may choose to stop for some local crafts or enjoy a meal before concluding your safari in Kigali.
